Set against the backdrop of 1960’s London, this fiercely intelligent heist thriller comes to us from director Michael Radford (Merchant of Venice, Il Postino). We first meet Laura Quinn (Demi Moore), a beautiful and savvy American executive who has sacrificed much of her life for her career. When Laura finds herself frustrated by the glass ceiling that has closed in over her head at the male dominated London Diamond corporation she strikes a devil’s bargain with Mr. Hobbs (Michael Caine), a night janitor who has used his harmless appearance to amass a huge knowledge of the inner workings of the corporation. Convinced that a trivial sum of diamonds would be stolen, Laura agrees to help Hobbs execute his genius plan. But when Hobbs’ plan turns out to be somewhat more ambitious, what follows leaves Laura in a tangled web of deception, danger, and political intrigue as she battles with her conscience and delves to uncover Hobbs’ true motivations.
