KATE BECKINSALE

SNOW ANGELS

From Director David Gordon Green

(George Washington, All the Real Girls)

Coming Soon

In 1975, when David Gordon Green was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, independent American filmmakers from different regions of the country were in revolt against Hollywoodism. They began making films that captured the intense dramas beneath the banal surface of small town life. Green’s films (George Washington, All the Real Girls) continue that tradition. His latest, Snow Angels, is a powerful drama about a marriage tragically falling apart while two young people discover first love in a quiet rural community. Green captures the deep-seated angst suffered by Annie (Kate Beckinsale), who has decided to end her marriage even though her husband (Sam Rockwell) is desperately clinging to hope for reconciliation. Running parallel to their lives is two sweet, but not saccharine teen-age high school students whose relationship is just blossoming. Green brilliantly evokes the labyrinthine nature of relationships, whether new or old. We see the glory of first love but must wonder if the idyllic can survive as youngsters grow into maturity. –Vic Skolnick

USA, 2007, 106 min., color • Director/writer: David Gordon Green, based on the novel by Stewart O’Nan
