Hosted by the Cinema Arts Centre’s Youth Advisory Board
The Youth Advisory Board is the Cinema’s new group of volunteers aged 16-22 with a mission to increase the Cinema’s visibility towards Long Island’s young population. The group votes on which film to present every quarter, and they raise hundreds of dollars to bring the screening to fruition.

Funds from the Battle of the Bands will be used to sponsor the upcoming screening of Easy A on April 21st, which is based on Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter. On April 23rd, the Cinema Arts Centre will have a screening of The Scarlet Letter as part of its Anything But Silent series.

About the bands:

The Sweaters
Alex Kraljic – Drums
Brian Van Duyne – Guitar
Jon Hunt – Bass

Hailing from Sayville, New York, The Sweaters take inspiration from the likes of The Black Keys, Hacienda, Neil Young, and Dylan, striving to project Rock N’ Roll the way it was meant to be played: through screaming tube amps and roaring drum kits. As their name implies, the band is a major advocate for the recent resurgence of sweaters in mainstream fashion. In their spare time they collect vintage sweaters, and are particularly interested in those worn by Bill Cosby.

The Slacktivists
From Syosset, NY
Shaina Tabak – Lead vocals
Ben Locke – Electric guitar, acoustic guitar
Chris Haas – Bass, keyboards, backing vocals
Luke Sedge – Drums, backing vocals

Influences: Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Black Keys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, MGMT, 5′Nizza, Jack White, Pearl Jam, Amy Winehouse, Muse, Soundgarden, Frank Ocean, Led Zeppelin…

All four members are current students at Harborfields High School and will be pursuing music in some way in their future careers/endeavors.
