A sexy, pulse-pounding romance set in the scintillating, competitive world of ballroom dancing that follows two New Yorkers whose lives are transformed by the power of love and music

Guest Speakers: Screenwriter Marty Madden (Incident at Haystack Landing, Field Guide to North American Monsters, The Hunt, All Shook Up, Victory)

Members $9 / Public $13 (includes pre-film reception)

This sexy, pulse-pounding romance set in the scintillating, competitive world of ballroom dancing follows the beautiful and vivacious Upper East Side Mia (Leah Pipes) who has a promising career as a dancer and Bronx-born Armando (EJ Bonilla) who sweeps floors at the dance studio in exchange for lessons. He dreams of a time when he will dance with Mia, the love of his life but both their dreams are shattered on one fateful evening, when a tragic accident forever confines Mia to a wheelchair, never to dance again. True to his heart, Armando dedicates himself, along with a colorful collection of oddballs, to helping Mia overcome her painful challenges and “dance” once more. Musical Chairs is directed by veteran independent filmmaker Susan Seidelman (Desperately Seeking Susan, The Boynton Beach Club, Smithereens, Making Mr. Right, She-Devil). “On one level Musical Chairs is a romantic film about the joy of dancing. But on another level, it’s a film about diversity: cultural, sexual and physical diversity,” explains Seidelman. Musical Chairs is a story of impossible dreams made true through the strength of the human spirit and the power of compassion and love. (USA, 2011, 100 min., color)
