In Person: Isabella Rossellini
Two films in celebration of her father Roberto Rossellini's
100th birthday!
Saturday, July 22 at 7pm
(Dessert & wine
reception at 6:30pm)
MY DAD IS 100 YEARS OLD, directed by Guy Maddin and
written by and starring Isabella Rossellini, is at once
whimsical and profoundly serious. It considers, among
other things, Rossellini's father Roberto's troubled
career and, in a very special, luminous moment, the relationship
between her parents. Rossellini herself portrays all
the major characters, including Frederico Fellini, Alfred
Hitchcock, Charlie Chaplin, David O. Selznick, and, most
poignantly, her own mother, Ingrid Bergman.
(Canada, 2005, 16 min.)
THE
FLOWERS OF ST. FRANCIS is Roberto Rossellini's delicate
meditation on the life of St. Francis of Assisi, whom
we follow from his immersion in religion to his attempts
at melding spirituality with everyday life. Co-written
with Federico Fellini, this gentle film is structured
as a series of simple vignettes that serve to convey
St. Francis' universal teachings.
(Italy, 1950, 90 min.)
