Muppets (TM),
Music & Magic:
Jim Henson’s Legacy
Friday, August 10 - Sunday, August 12
In conjunction with The Jim Henson Legacy (www.JimHensonLegacy.org) and Brooklyn Academy of Music (www.BAM.org), Puppets on the Sound pays tribute to one of the world's most inspired and innovative film and puppetry artists, Jim Henson. A visionary TV producer and a world-class puppeteer who created indelible characters like Kermit the Frog, Henson brought a unique combination of childlike wonder and adult sophistication to his ground-breaking work for children and adults alike. Morning and early afternoon screenings feature films for kids of all ages, while evening programs focus on Henson's experimental work, commercials, rarities, and films for all the adults who never grew up. This weekend-long series will feature many special guests and explore all facets of this prolific artist's output, while allowing children to make their own puppets in our workshops. Series organizer Irena Kovarova.

Labyrinth Saturday @ 10:00PM
Special Guest: Craig Shemin, offical Muppet historian
Rated
PG; for adults and families with children, ages 11 and
up

Jim Henson returns to the land of fantasy, this time creating
a modern-day Alice in Wonderland. Jennifer Connelly plays
Sarah, a young girl who must travel through the Labyrinth
to save her baby brother from the Goblin King (David
Bowie). Full of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop’s
typically imaginative creature design, the film’s
eye-popping sets, including the M.C. Escher inspired castle,
create a wholly believable world existing just behind the
facade of reality. 1986, 35mm., 97 min. • Directed
by Jim Henson
“The script, by Terry Jones, co-creator of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, is witty and slightly zany—a good combination to entertain both children and adults. The result, a fabulous film about a young girl’s journey into womanhood that uses futuristic technology to illuminate a mythic-style tale, is in many ways a remarkable achievement.”—THE NEW YORK TIMES

MIDNIGHT MADNESS
Meet The Feebles
Saturday, August 11 @ Midnight
Before The Lord of the Rings, director Peter Jackson became famous—or infamous, rather—for Meet the Feebles, a scathing parody of The Muppet Show. When we first meet our young hero, Robert the Hedgehog, he has just joined The Feebles as a chorus singer for their live television debut, The Fabulous Feebles Variety Hour. Too bad the show's host, Harry the Hare, is afflicted with venereal disease, Wyniard, the knife-throwing alligator, is addicted to smack and suffering from Vietnam flashbacks, and the star of the show, Heidi the Hippo, has developed a binge-eating problem after being dumped by the show's producer, Bletch, who, to top it all off, moonlights as a drug pusher. Poor Robert becomes a witness to these and even more bizarre perversions before events finally escalate out of control, culminating in a machine-gun shooting spree the likes of which are seldom seen in musical comedy. Needless to say, this rarely-screened, must-see puppet extravaganza is for adults only. 90 min. Click HERE for trailer!
